Where am I?
Cell of Empireo (abbreviated as CoE) is a free RPG Maker horror adventure game by 鱶尾工業 -SharkTale Factory-. It was released on freem.ne.jp, a Japanese site for uploading and downloading free user-made games, in 2018. It is also the first part of a planned series (細胞神曲シリーズ). It's pretty niche in English spaces since there is no official ENG translation, but there is still a lot of fans and fanworks out there. I got into it in 2023 thanks to a friend who was also into it before me. If you'd like to see this game too but can't read Japanese, Korean or Chinese, there is an English fan translation on Youtube! That translation covers the full main game with all endings, but at the time of writing this has not finished uploading the DLC. Machine translation is also possible.
Warnings for the series include: religious themes, cults, death, animal death, gore, body horror, cannibalism, bullying, abuse and parental neglect, and suicide. It has strong themes about relationships and metafiction.
Do note that you are advised against using the game's art and sprites in certain ways! Which is why I took the time to draw my own sprites. (explained in the official site)
Veryyyyy basic short non-spoiler summary for CoE: You play as Haruki Atou (Atou Haruki in JPN name order), who works at a detective agency. An amnesiac coworker of his goes missing one day. Searching for him leads Atou to the Empyrean Heaven Research Institute, where many things unfold.
Past this point, there may be some hints of spoilers. (I'll avoid big ones as much as I can - but careful with snooping here if you don't know anything yet! And the other pages have more spoilers!)

信濃 栄治 (Shinano Eiji)
しなの えいじ
Age: 26 / Male / Detective / 173cm
Shinano is a major character in CoE. He is Atou Haruki's friend and coworker at the detective agency. He goes missing at the beginning of the game, which becomes the catalyst for the rest of the game.
His official character bio tranlated to English is this: "An investigator working for the Otowa Detective Office. He was an employee of the Tokyo headquarters, but he suffered from amnesia. He has a friendly and cheerful personality. Afraid of dogs."
Why do I like him?
I like all the main CoE cast but I love Shinano specifically because he's a cute funny guy :). He eats a lot, he's bouncy, and he wants to protect Atou-san.

Relationships / Connections
阿藤 春樹 (Atou Haruki)
あとう はるき
Age: 28 / Male / Detective / 180cm
"An investigator working for the Otowa Detective Office. He is a young faced, thin-bodied intellectual type. He has no memories of childhood and has no relatives." (translation of his official bio)
Atou is the protagonist of CoE. He and Shinano are coworkers; he was in charge of watching over Shinano, and he goes looking for him upon his absence. They appear to care about each other a lot despite only knowing each other for a short time. Atou goes to great lengths to save him in the Arrival Point S/S+ ending -- though he doesn't understand why -- and Shinano says things like "I love you" or "I'll fall for you" (But the latter is taken as a joke. But I take him seriously. Nothing wrong with kissing your bestie). Shinano also does some... other things... They hang out outside of work too. He calls Shinano childish (true). At some point Shinano calls himself Atou's right-hand man. Atou is his favorite senpai.
磯井 麗慈 (Isoi Reiji)
いそい れいじ
Age: 20s / Male / Freeter (freelancer) / 169cm
"A mysterious young man who calls himself a freelancer. He seems to have gotten involved in the incident by chance, but is strangely calm. He has very strong physical abilities." (translation of his official bio)
Reiji is a main character in CoE; he, Atou and Shinano make up a trio. They get along well, though it seems Reiji can't always keep up with Shinano's high energy. He calls Shinano "Shinano-shi". Reiji also speaks Italian.
Reiji is another one of my favorite characters, I really like his design and the way he's written. His deadpan-ness at times is pretty funny too. There's a lot to explore with his family relationships.
音羽 塁 (Otowa Rui)
おとわ るい
Age: 28 / Male / Detective / 180cm
"Son of the Otowa Detective Agency president; manager of the Nagano Branch. He has been Atou's best friend since childhood. He's calm and unaffected." (translation of his official bio)
He seems to be very important, but we don't see him much in this game. Much more is known about his relationship with Atou than his relationship with Shinano.
磯井 実光 (Isoi Sanemitsu)
イソイ サネミツ
Age: 50+ / Male / ? / 176cm
He is a major character in the series and Reiji respects him immensely. Not much more I can explain without spoilers. Even though they know each other by the end of the game, we don't really see him interact with Shinano. The potential is there, though.
He's so interesting to me. Also he's a hag. I'm examining him through a microscope.
宇津木 徳幸 (Utsugi Noriyuki)
うつぎ のりゆき
Age: 55 / Male / Archbishop and head of the Institute / 180cm
"Organizational leader who holds the rank of archbishop. He has an air of politeness and warmth, but his words and actions are clearly tinged with madness." (translation of his official bio)
Utsugi is the current leader of the Empyrean Heaven Research Institute. We don't see him have a real conversation with Shinano, but the latter man does end up in his institute building.
I like him because he's a scary old man who is obsessed with a 60 yr old and he blushes.
